Controls in the Age of AI? [President’s Message]

Quite a bit has already been written about how we, as a controls community, should respond to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and how our tools, models, and techniques should best be deployed alongside data-driven, machine learning (ML) algorithms. From safe learning and formal verification of neural networks to data-driven control, we have seen several interesting and fruitful new venues for controls research emerge. But this is surely just the tip of the iceberg as for what the future has in store for us as a technical community. In this “President’s Message” column, I am taking help from Prof. Pramod Khargonekar.
