Enhancing LoRaWAN Class B: A Pseudo-Random Access Mechanism with Orthogonality Awareness

This paper presents a novel channel access mechanism for LoRaWAN network operating in Class B mode. Our proposal aims to decrease frame collisions and enhance network performance. The mechanism defines a pseudorandom channel access scheme, where each device calculates its uplink schedule using a pseudorandom generator (PRG) based on its unique address, channel frequency, and beacon time. This generator is also implemented on the network server to provide a comprehensive Timemap of future network traffic. With this Timemap, the network server can make informed decisions on the appropriate persistence value P for each device’s uplink, based on the global network traffic load and any potential synchronous traffic. One of the other key features of our approach is the dedicated channel for critical traffic that is sensitive to delay.
