Effect of Periodic Modulation Strategies on the Sideband Vibration and Noise in PMSMS

This paper investigates the influence of different periodic modulation strategies on the sideband vibration and noise of the PMSM. Firstly, the sideband voltage harmonics with the periodic modulation strategies are derived analytically. And then, the selection criterion of the extension frequency width is given. Finally, the characteristics of the sideband noise with different periodic frequency modulation (PCFM) strategies are analyzed and compared. The results show that the periodic modulation strategies can suppress the sideband noise at the full speed range. Meanwhile, compared with the square periodic modulation technique, sinusoidal and triangular periodic modulation strategies have a better suppression effect on the sideband noise radiated by the PMSMs.
