Improvement of Power Grid Transient Stability Using Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles: A Review

A Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) acts as an energy supplier and power source in discharging mode operating as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology and act as a loading charging mode when operating as Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) technology ultimately called as vehicle-grid integration. These are fast evolving concepts and major focus areas in research. Most of the time, RES (Renewable Energy System) fail to generate the needed amount of potential or power and also injects leading reactive power into the grid as it behaves as decoupled and inertia-less or less stable system which create stability issues. Hence, most convenient way to maintain the stability is Peak Load Shaving or Load Shedding. Here comes the need of PHEVs as they can provide that needed power to the grid through V2G technology in peak load hours. In this paper, some published works with the objective to improve the stability of the grid using PHEV has been reviewed.
