Optimal Placement of Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Distribution Network with SOS Algorithm

With the gradual depletion of fossil fuels and increased awareness of environmental conservation, more attention is being directed to Electric Vehicles (EVs). The adoption of EVs as a viable solution to these problems can significantly cut emissions from the transportation and power sectors, respectively. The increased demand for energy for EV charging increases power loss and network loss costs in the distribution system (DS), and significant variations occur in the voltage and current profiles. When EV Charging Stations (EVCS) are built incorrectly, the distribution network's power quality suffers considerably, reducing the network's efficiency. This paper describes the suitable placement of EVCS in the IEEE 33 bus radial distribution network to improve its efficiency by reducing active power loss and also reducing the annual cost of network loss in the distribution system. The problem was transformed into anoptimization problem, which was addressed by utilizingthe Symbiotic Organisms Search (SOS) algorithm.
