Investigation of Electrodynamic Characteristics of the Millimeter Range Folded Waveguide Slow-Wave Structure

In this paper, the slow-wave structure (SWS) of the “folded waveguide” -type was considered. This SWS is widely used for designing the devices in higher frequencies like millimeter and sub millimeter ranges due to its compactness, increased interaction length, reduced transit time effects, lower voltage requirements, and wide bandwidth. The calculation of its electrodynamic characteristics, such as the dispersion characteristics and the characteristics impedance, was performed using the HFSS software for 3D modeling and MATLAB for the results processing. Addition of the electron beam transit channel in the SWS and its effect on SWS characteristics was studied. It is shown that the size of the transit channel should be carefully considered, and its presence should be accounted for in the SWS simulation.
