Design and Characterization of Partially Grounded 28 GHz Patch Antenna and its MIMO Implementation

This paper presents a partially grounded 28 GHz square patch antenna and its four-port MIMO implementation with added diversity techniques. The proposed antenna offers a planar and compact geometry with low design complexity, acceptable gain and bandwidth, and very low mutual coupling (-40 dB) between antenna elements. The designed antenna provides a 2.2 GHz bandwidth, 7.8 dB realized gain, and 99 % computed efficiency for the complete frequency band from 26.7 GHz to 28.9 GHz. Various MIMO parameters like ECC, DG, TARC, and CCL were analyzed. The designed antenna and its MIMO configurations are well-suitable for millimeter-wave applications in the 3GPP band n257.
