Development of an Optical Pressure Sensing Array: Initial Validation

Current methods to measure the strength of the pelvic floor consist of several expensive pressure sensor encapsulated in a single-use device. To expand the clinical suitability of pelvic floor pressure sensor a new class of pressure sensing elements has been explored. These elements utilise optical attenuation through deformable materials. A prototype optical sensor array has been constructed and experimentally tested. This has validated that individual sensor elements can be indexed and the predicted response measurement, with evident crosstalk and lower signal sensor strength than expected.
