Production Planning is a key element of a manufacturing company. It helps with inventory management, shipping scheduling, resource management, total proceeds forecasting, etc. Schedule Attainment is a key metric of production which represents how successfully can the operation meet the targets of planning. However, if the plan is inaccurate, the operation has no control over the key performance indicator. In this article we have examined a situation where a high-mix, low volume electronic manufacturing company was not able to give correct production plan and failed to identify the root cause of the problem with standard statistical and analytical tools. With the help of the latest innovations of information technology, we were able to build an architecture that collects every available data of production and made a big data based analysis to be able to achieve better schedule attainment.
