Impact of Antenna Array Arrangement on MIMO Radar for Human Identification Application

This paper proposes a human identification technique robust to the subject position deviation using Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) radar with vertical array arrangement. This method calculates eigenvectors from the training and test propagation channels, which are compared to perform human identification. The vertically arranged array alleviates the positional dependency of the eigenvectors corresponding to the targets. The experiment is carried out on five subjects in an indoor environment. The vertical array achieved a 92% identification rate on average, while the horizontal array achieved the 47% when the training data comprising the signal responses corresponding to multiple positions over the tested area was used for both cases. This result clarified the vertical array yields a recognition rate better than the horizontal array.
