Study of Surface Quality Processed by Fiber Optic Laser Engraving of Steel According to Working Parameters

Laser engraving technology has expanded in to many fields of activity, being applicable to various metallic and non-metallic materials. In the case of high-fineness and high-precision machining, fiber optic laser engraving is a preferred alternative to mechanical machining with the aim of streamlining the work procedure. Fiber optic laser material processing involves melting the material, vaporizing it and removing the resulting residue. As a result of processing, indentations with different aspects and surface structures are obtained depending on the adjusted working parameters. Adjustable working parameters are: percentage power from 0-100%, repeatable number of passes, beam speed from 0-10.000 mm/s, working frequency from 1-30.000 Hz, laser beam strategy and focal length 285 mm for the 175 x 175 mm lens. The paper presents experimental research on the use of fiber optic laser for engraving operations. Using statistical analysis, the optimal settings of the work parameters are identified in order to obtain a surface with controlled roughness corresponding to the technical work requirements
