Seven level Switched Capacitor Multilevel Boost inverter for Renewable Energy Sources

Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have been a popular choice for intermediate voltage and high power applications becausethey provide a high power level cascade type inverter that accepts multiple/single DC inputs and provides combined AC output at the appropriate voltage and frequency. MLIs have a number of merits over 2L inverters, including reduced dv/dt, the ability to handle higher voltage levels, a quasi-sinusoidal output waveform, and lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). The most difficult aspect of implementing MLI is the growing number of switches and their design. MLIs for boost-type DC-AC converters basedon switched capacitors (SC) frequently exhibit a trade-off between switch voltage rating and switch count. A seven-level (7L) boost inverter (BI) built on switching capacitors is presentedin this study for single-phase applications. Without sensors or other auxiliary techniques, the proposed 7L-BI can accomplish 1.5 voltage gain, seven output levels, and inherent capacitor voltage balancing, indicating its suitability for Renewable Energy (RE) applications.
