Performance Analysis of Different Shaped CSRR Antenna at 2.4 GHz

In this research work, microstrip antennas with different metamaterial structures embedded in the ground plane are analysed and compared for wireless applications. The proposed antenna is designed at a 2.4 GHz resonant frequency. Here, a complimentary split-ring resonator (CSRR) is used as a meta-material structure for antenna design. The four different CSRR shapes, such as rectangular, triangular, circle, and hexagonal shapes, are embedded in the ground plane with RT Roger 5880 substrates. The thigh muscle is considered a human phantom model to calculate the specific absorption rate (SAR) value for the proposed antenna. Different antenna parameters for different shapes of CSRR are analysed and compared at 2.4 GHz. It is found that the proposed antenna with a triangular-shaped CSRR gives the best result in terms of SAR value of 0.234 W/kg of tissue when the antenna is kept close to the thigh muscle. The triangular-shaped CSRR antenna also has a directivity of 8.19 dBi and a reflection coefficient of -39.10 dB.All the proposed antennas are designed in Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio software.
