IoT Monitoring for Hybrid Photovoltaic Fuel Cell System

Fuel cells (FCs) are energy conversion technologies that are pure, environmentally friendly, highly efficient, and offer reliable energy production. Solar cells, on the other hand, are a sort of renewable energy that use the photons of the sun to generate electricity. Due to the high level of living and rising energy needs of homes, uninterrupted power is becoming important. Therefore, photovoltaic (PV) and FC system is implemented for hybrid power generation. The hybrid system’s electrical generation must therefore be continuously monitored and assessed. Data logging can be used to monitor the production of electric energy in an internet of things (IoT)-based power plant. The model comprises an FC stack, PV array, boost converter and an inverter which is developed in a MATLAB tool. The converter is controlled by a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller for obtaining efficient output voltage. A Wi-Fi transmitter called NodeMCU ESP8266 transmits all the data onto the internet after being collected by a microcontroller called Arduino ATMega2560, then the data is viewed by the user using ThinkSpeak. The aim of this research is to monitor the voltage and current generated from the hybrid system for residential applications, which makes the home smarter.
