A Novel Distance Protection Method for Out-of-Phase Faults of AC Traction Power Supply System

Aiming at the problem that the existing relay protection of traction power supply system mis-operates when an out-of-phase fault occurs, based on the sum of two phase impedance, a novel distance protection method is proposed. In addition, the characteristic and settings of the proposed protection are derived in detail. Simulation results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed protection method.
