Optimal Configuration of Energy Storage for Offshore Oilfield Power Grids

This paper studies the optimal configuration of energy storage in offshore oilfield power grids (OOPGs) with high penetration of renewable power. First, a unified optimization model is established considering both the configuration of the energy storage itself and its collaborative configuration with the renewable power and gas turbine generators. The objective function of the model is to minimize the total cost of power supply. Besides the requirements of power balance and power output limits, limitations from renewable power penetration and carbon emissions that may arise in future are also considered in the constraints of the model. Then, via the optimal configuration of energy storage for an actual OOPG with various scenarios and demands taken into account, effectiveness of the model established is verified. Finally, based on results of production simulation, the effects, and limitations of energy storage configuration in the OOPG is summarized.
