Wide-Area Control Strategy Based on Reference Model Predictive Control

In this paper, a new generalized predictive control algorithm based on the recursive least squares of the reference model is proposed to solve the problem that traditional generalized predictive control cannot obtain state (internal) variables in model parameter identification. By selecting the state (internal) variables of the reference model, the output of the reference model is approximated to these unmeasurable variables and the consistent estimation of system parameters is obtained, which reduces the interference of noise to the forward channel. Simulation results show that the wide-area damping controller designed by this method can improve the damping of the interconnected power grid and suppress the low-frequency oscillation in the time-delay system with noise.
