Research on the Protection Probability of Guide Strip by Using the Lightning Attachment Model

To assist the lightning shielding design of ships and aircraft, a lightning fractal model is established, but its reliability in the prediction of lightning attachment probability needs to be evaluated. Therefore, a lightning attachment test platform based on a rod-plate air gap is built, and repeated discharges under different test configurations are carried out to investigate the influencing factors of attachment probability. The test results are compared with the simulation results to quantitatively evaluate the reliability of the model. The comparison between the lightning protection probability simulation and test results of the 2 mm HDPE plate under different spacing of the guide strip shows that the trends of the protection rate are basically the same, with the average probability difference being only 11.3%. The test is of certain equivalence with natural lightning, and the proposed lightning fractal model has good reliability in the prediction of lightning protection probability.
