Application of Data Mining Technology in the Analysis of CET-4 Scores

At present, university education has gradually transformed into mass education, expanding the scale of the college and increasing the number of students. Universities have accumulated a large number of student data in the educational administration system. The wealth of data can facilitate university researches in many fields. In this paper, data mining techniques will be applied to analyze the data of students’ scores of College English Test Band Four (hereafter referred to as CET-4). Useful information will be mined from it to provide a data basis for teaching reform and better teaching management. The main research contents are as follows: for students majoring in software engineering and chemistry at grade 19 and 20, the factors affecting CET-4 scores are analyzed based on linear regression algorithm. Important elements include students’ college entrance examination scores, their class performance, final examination results, etc. After integrating various factors, it is found that college entrance examination scores determine students’ English foundation, so there is a close linear relationship between college entrance examination scores and CET-4 scores. Students’ class performance and final examination scores both represent students’ daily learning attitude and will affect CET-4 scores.
