Altitude and Attitude Control of X-Configuration Quadrotor Design

The quadrotor type of UAV would presumably be the most prevalent form of UAV vehicle commercially available for civilian and defence purposes as it does not require intricate remote-controlling abilities to operate. However, this reputation hasn’t been matched by many studies in the field of dynamic modelling, architecture, and analysis of quadrotors. This research utilises MATLAB and Simulink tools to establish a mathematical modelling strategy for an X-configuration quadrotor design. The primary objective is to devise an appropriate mathematical model for quadrotors, assess the system’s performance, and keep the quadrotor stable under various flight circumstances. Along with the model, four basic PID-based automatic control strategies were also designed, i.e., for pitch, roll, yaw, and altitude hold systems. The model and the proposed control system were then evaluated in a sequence of simulation tests, which produced satisfactory results in simulating a quadrotor system. The developed model has good potential as a base for quadrotor analysis and control design.
