Comparison of Characteristics for Two Selected Inductors for Levitation Melting

Electromagnetic Levitation Melting (EML) is one of the melting metals methods. It is based on the use of an inductor that generates an alternating electromagnetic field. In this study, the effect of changing the geometric parameters of the inductors on the electrical parameters of the system, the melting time of the batch, and the lifting force of the batch was investigated. The measurements were carried out in relation to two inductors for EML, the first being the base and the second one being the result of optimization aimed at finding the best geometrical parameter for the presented class of inductors. On this basis, we recommend the use of an optimized inductor.
