Thermal Analysis of a Microstrip Meander-line Slow Wave Structure with Thermal Pyrolytic Graphite Layer

This paper explores the thermal characteristics of a microstrip meander-line slow wave structure (SWS) with thermal pyrolytic graphite (TPG) layer operating at W-band (90-100GHz). The simulation results indicate that when the a-direction of the TPG is parallel to the bottom of dielectric of SWS, the maximum temperature of the SWS is only 116.2°C after reaching steady state. A comparison of thermal characteristics of such SWS with that of the SWS without the TPG layer also shows that the maximum temperature of the former is about 40°C lower than that of the latter under the conditions of loading the same power of heat source.
