Transient Stability Analysis of Wind Farm Integrated Power Systems using PSAT

As renewable energy has become a greater part of the power system; it is important to analyze how its integration to grid affects its stability. With the installation of DFIG, the transient instability of power systems is elevated using an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) and Power System Stabilizer (PSS) installed on synchronous generators. A similar kind of approach is adopted in this paper to analyze and investigate the stability of a Western System Coordinating Council (WSCC) 9-bus and 68-bus system while integrated with a wind farm. The stability is evaluated in terms of a parameter called transient stability index or TSI. An impact of varying load/generation near faulted bus is investigated till the system go unstable. Further, TSI is observed with and without AVR and PSS connected to synchronous generators. It has been seen that by using an AVR and PSS improvement in TSI has been recorded. Above investigations are realized through implementation on Power System Analysis Toolbox or PSAT.
