Design of On-Board Unit for Vehicular Applications

In the future, self-driving cars and connected vehicles will undoubtedly change the way we travel. With automated self-driving cars carrying passengers and trucks carrying valuable goods, we will need a Fleet Management System to track the vehicles and know their location to make sure that they are at the right location at the right time or if the vehicle met with an accident and was not able to reach the location at the right time. The proposed solution basically comprises two modules, which is referred as On-Board Unit (OBU). In the first module, the location of the vehicle is tracked using a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) module. When we need to know the vehicle's location, just a phone call is required. A Short Message Service (SMS) along with the link to the location will be sent to the registered mobile number. In the second module, we have used a Global Positioning System (GPS) module and a few sensors along with the GSM module to know the location of the vehicle whenever it gets into an unexpected accident or fire accident, SMS with the location link will be sent immediately to the registered mobile number when the sensors detect the vibration due to an accidentor any abnormal temperature.
