Rising-Sun Magnetron with Axial Extraction of Radiation TE01-mode

A preliminary investigation on magnetron with diffraction output (MDO) is carried out, aiming at the application of high-power microwave (HPM) phased array system. For such system, the direction of output port should orthogonal to the radial direction of the magnetron. Particle-In-Cell (PIC) simulation is applied to study the characteristics of the 10-cavity rising-sun magnetron with diffraction output whose radiation pattern is TE
0l
mode. The configuration of the MDO is optimized to improving the beam-to-microwave conversion efficiency. Consequently, when a voltage of 46
$\mathbf{kV}$
and magnetic field of 0.204

are applied on the optimized magnetron, the average output power can be as high as 2.71 MW at 2.
