An efficient Repeated Power Flow approach to evaluate Available Transfer Capability considering power systems security

The Available Transfer Capability (ATC) plays a vital role in ensuring efficient operation and availability of affordable and dependable electricity in electricity markets. The study utilizes the Repeated Alternating Current Power Flow (RACPF) approach, which is based on the Newton Raphson load flow (NRLF) method, to assess ATC and compares its accuracy with the Direct Current Power Transfer Distribution Factor (DCPTDF) approach. The IEEE standard 57-bus test system is used to evaluate ATC in a bilateral electricity trading scenario under different operational conditions. The study also identifies and ranks the most severe line contingencies using the Composite Security Index (CSI) and evaluates ATC performance using RACPF for various power transactions under the most critical line and generator outage situations. The results demonstrate that ATC values are crucial in a restructured power system environment to understand the transmission network's limitations and characteristics to operate the system effectively.
