Fold Staggered Grating Waveguide Slow Wave Struc-ture for G-band TWT

A novel slow wave structure, folded staggered grating waveguide (FSGW), has been proposed for terahertz traveling wave tube. Compared to a conventional folded waveguide (FW), with slight modification FSGW provides a stronger longitudinal electric field, higher interaction impedance and lower ohmic losses. Further particle-in-cell simulation results verified that, driven by an 18.6 kV and 0.08 A electron beam, FSGW-TWT can be achieved with a gain of up to 26.0 dB at 190 GHz, as well as maximum output power of 119.2 W at 203 GHz. Moreover, the bandwidth, saturated power, gain and electron efficiency of FSGW-TWT has been significantly improved over those of FW-TWT.
