Suppression of parasitic modes in gyrotrons with an additional resonator coil

The mode competition is a key factor limiting the development of gyrotrons towards higher power and higher frequencies. In the study, we propose to use a small additional solenoid to vary the magnetic field during the startup process to suppress the parasitic modes. The results show that by applying such a scheme, the desired mode can be selectively excited in a dense mode spectrum.
