Target Voltage Control Approach for Active Distribution System Based on PV Active and Reactive Powers Nodal Prices

Distribution systems with renewable-based distributed energy resources often face several voltage problems, including voltage fluctuations and rise. These problems make it difficult for system operators to control voltage effectively. Therefore, operators of distribution systems should consider these issues in future grid planning. In this paper, a promise voltage control technique is developed, referred to as the target voltage control (TVC) approach. The objective of the TVC approach is to maximize the distributed energy resources powers, decrease the profit unfairness among the prosumers, and enhance the grid voltage quality by mitigating the voltage rise problems. The proposed approach is unique in its ability to significantly reduce the control performance degradation that results from infrequent data exchange among the controlled agents. Through simulated case studies of a 38-node distribution test feeder with several photovoltaic sources, it has been demonstrated that the proposed TVC approach can effectively achieve the desired objective with low-frequency communication data exchange.
