Hysteresis Compensation and Fractional-Order IMC Design for Piezoelectric Actuators

Piezoelectric actuators (PZAs), as smart materials with extremely good properties, are commonly employed in high-speed and high-precision nano-positioning systems. On the other hand, piezoelectric actuators exhibit undesirable hysteretic nonlinearities. This necessitates the development of a control system capable of robustly and accurately controlling this class of hysteresis nonlinearities. To address this issue, in this study, we provide a Hammerstein model-based control design strategy to compensate for the effects of hysteresis. The Hammerstein representation employs the Bouc-Wen model to characterize the hysteresis phenomenon. The proposed technique attempts to first construct a hysteresis compensator in order to linearize the system using the inverse of the Bouc-Wen model. Secondly, a fractional-order internal model controller (FO-IMC) is designed to increase the system’s robustness and fulfill specific performance criteria. Simulation tests are performed, and the outcomes acquired show the efficiency of the proposed control mechanism.
