Optimized PID Controller and Generalized Inverted Decoupling Design for MIMO System

The highly interacting multi input multi output (MIMO) process, such as distillation columns, is often decoupled into a collection of separate loops, with each loop being controlled by a traditional PID controller. It is exceedingly challenging to tune typical PID controllers. This paper presented and independently implements a comparative performance analysis of several control algorithms for MIMO process. This study examines the simulation model and control of the Vinante-Luyben and Wood-Berry models utilizing Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based optimized PID and inverted decoupling of the distillation column. Multivariate “first-order plus time-delay” systems (distillation columns) used the proportional Relative Gain Array and the Niederlinski index, respectively, to examine stability and interaction.
