PV Powered Flood Warning System: A Case Study of Matamuhuri River, Bangladesh

Flood is one of the most devastating calamities in Bangladesh. This study presents an automated, sustainable and efficient flood warning system for Matamuhuri river in Bangladesh. The proposed system can harness the required power from PV system and can also store the additional backup energy for adverse climate conditions. In order to maintain one-way communication with the affected people, a real-time alert is incorporated into the system based on the river water level. Necessary hardware and simulation work are conducted in this study. The result shows that the system requires 32 Wh energy daily for the proposed case study. Considering catastrophic stormy days during flash floods, the battery requirement could be changed to 12V/10Ah. Possible reasons for the flood in the study area are also investigated by analyzing the real data. The proposed flood warning system can function in both normal and adverse weather conditions and be capable of raising awareness of the crisis among every group of the general public.
