YULA: Interactive IoT-Based Pet Planter in Coleus Plant

Gardening has been one of the ways of people in coping and developing a sense of social, material, emotional, and spiritual transformation through providing adequate plant needs nutrients. With that, an interactive plant monitoring system was developed to help plant parents care for the plants in terms of underwatering, overwatering, and determining the amount of sunlight the plant needs. The IoT-based pet planter indicates the exact amount of soil moisture and sunlight exposure level the plant receives through a water sensor, light-dependent resistor, DHT11–temperature and humidity sensor. It allows the user to respond through a remote and manual irrigation system. The study centered on two Coleus plant variants, the Picture-Perfect Salmon Pink and the Premium Sun Chocolate Covered Cherry. Using the obtained characterization, a response test was used to determine the accuracy of the prototype depending on the soil moisture level and sunlight level using the manual moving of the plant, as well as the use of the manual water irrigation system button and the remote water monitoring system that allows the user to water through a mobile and web application through the LED and animation status of the system. Results showed that the system responds through its environment. The unpaired t-test shows a statistically significant difference between plant groups with the prototype compared to the traditional method in height, number of leaves, and number of branches at a 5% significance level.
