Self-Repairing and Water Blocking Protection for Subsea Power Cables

The UK is currently the world leader in offshore wind (OSW) generation, with a current capacity of >10GW. Governmental initiatives seek to substantially expand this capacity as part of achieving to net zero by 2050, with plans to install OSW capacities of 40GW by 2030 [1] , with contributions of up to 1GW from floating wind platforms. Similar developments can be seen across the world, with EU, China, and USA projected to significantly increase OSW capacity during this timeframe [2] .
