Aviation Channel Models Design Based on the Experimental Data: a Testbed Implementation

This paper presents a set of aviation channel models developed based on published experimentally measured data. The models are implemented in the form of software generators for both computer simulations and real-time hardware emulation. The approach to reconstructing the channel angular properties from the available channel impulse responses is described. We also present a method to extend applicability of the channel models based on the experimental measurements for broader range of TX-RX distances and heights. Finally, we describe the developed real-time hardware channel emulator and present examples of a communication system performance evaluation with the help of the developed channel models.
