Job Insecurity Dilemma, a Post-Pandemic Phenomenon

Social interaction limits, economic ramifications, and widespread unemployment brought on by the global COVID-19 pandemic have all contributed to a cascade of impacts that have left workers feeling insecure and at risk for the future. Most of the previous studies discuss workers' insecurity of losing their jobs. However, there is also a phenomenon where companies, especially start-ups, lose their talented workers to another company or even to a competitor considered to have a more secure future. This study examines two sides of employee turnover by identifying between workers who fear losing their jobs and those considering moving to other companies for their careers. A quantitative method was chosen, targeting start-up workers in Jakarta metropolitan area, Indonesia. Two hundred valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed with Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Only one hypothesis was rejected. Moreover, job insecurity had significant effects on Job engagement and Turnover Intention of start-up workers. Based on the findings, several practical and theoretical implications are discussed.
