A Supporting System for Personalizing Learning Program for Elderly People

Currently, Japanese society faces the hyper-aging society problem, and social participation of elderly people is required. In order to support social involvements of elderly people, importance of lifelong learning is increasing. However, designing learning programs for elderly people is not easy because they have various physical and mental conditions. As a result, elderly people who have physical disorders or physical and mental decline can find few opportunities to join learning programs. In this paper, a mechanism of supporting system for personalizing learning programs for elderly people, who have physical and mental problems, is proposed to solve the problem. The basic idea of the personalization mechanism are: (1) Eliminating optional steps in a learning program, and (2) proposing collaboration with others in a learning program. Experimental results, which are conducted for investigating the usefulness of the proposed mechanism, are shown. The results show that the proposed system can help coordinators of learning programs for elderly people.
