Development of a Compact Subnanosecond Pulse Transmitter With a Single Low-Power Supply

This letter proposes a step recovery diode (SRD)-based compact subnanosecond pulse transmitter. Working as a charge switch, the SRD can cut off the current of an inductor, generating a subnanosecond pulse. Only one single low-power supply is used in the transmitter, while a large amplitude that greatly exceeds the power supply voltage can be generated. Simulation and experimental results have validated that the proposed transmitter has very good performance, being a promising candidate for portable and wearable ultrawideband (UWB) transceivers.
