Advanced Analytics for Cement Manufacturing

The leading data analytics tool in the cement industry is a spreadsheet, but there is an opportunity to improve productivity and replace it with an advanced analytics application. Spreadsheets are difficult to use for process data because volume is big, sensors are many, and time-series data has noise and dropouts. Spreadsheets exacerbate these because the onus of organizing and cleaning the data is put on the end user. This paper describes how a cement producer implemented an advanced analytics application to provide positive business results for problems common to the industry: root cause analysis, production reports, quality modeling, and predictive maintenance.
