Predictive Current Control Scheme for Post-Fault Operation of Nine-Phase-Based Integrated Onboard Chargers

This paper outlines model predictive control (MPC) implementation to integrated onboard battery chargers (OBC) utilizing a multiphase EV-drive train. Unfortunately, as the number of phases increases, the adoption of MPC becomes more complex. Positively, the redundant phases facilitate the optimization of the control action. This research concerns the control of nine-phase-based OBC and its supplying/charging ability during vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and grid-to-vehicle (G2V) healthy and post-fault operations; one or more defective inverter legs are disengaged. During such circumstances, the aim is to provide a control scheme that guarantees balanced grid currents while preserving machine losses to a minimum at zero overall torque development. To transition between pre- and post-fault instances, the presented approach requires only a slight adjustment to the control mechanism. Restrictions and fault scenarios are addressed and evaluated via MATLAB simulations.
