Multi-Mode Simulation Modeling of Full-Size Variable Speed Pumped Storage System Including the Complete Unit Links

For coping with the energy crisis and protect the natural environment, wind and photovoltaic power generations have developed rapidly. However, they have strong volatility, intermittency and randomness, which leads to the weak regulation ability in the power grid. In order to enhance the flexible adjustment ability of the power grid, it is important to develop pumped storage system. In which the full-size variable speed pumped storage (FSVSPS) has excellent regulation range and speed, which attracts much attention. In order to carry out more detailed researches on FSVSPS, rigorous modeling is an important foundation and guarantee. Therefore, this paper studies the simulation modeling of FSVSPS including the complete unit links (speed regulation system, hydraulic system, water hammer effect, DC excitation system, full-size power converter, et al) and multiple operation modes to make the model more accurate. The simulation tests validate the accuracy of the established simulation model.
