Power System Transient Stability Control Considering HVDC Modulation and Load Shedding Coordination

The development of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current), renewable energy power source and semiconducting load makes the modern power system become more and more complex, lifting requirements and increasing cost of the transient stability control. Utilizing all controllable resources available to enhance the power system stability is a promising way to maintain the power system stability level in an affordable way. This paper proposes a coordinate method between HVDC modulation and load shedding for transient stability control, which are typical examples of newly-developing and traditional control resources respectively. Firstly, an emergency control model considering optimal adjusted power allocation as well as frequency and voltage safe constraints is presented; then, a solving method based on NSGA-II (Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II) is designed to solve the complex nonlinear optimization model; finally, a case study based on IEEE39 system is used to verified the proposed coordinate method.
