Coordination Control of FSC-VSPS and PV Complementary Power Generation System

Full size converter and variable speed pumped storage (FSC-VSPS) units have characteristics of fast response and flexible regulation. When the FSC-VSPS operates complementary with renewable energy, it can not only promote the consumption of new energy, but also make the power grid more reliable and stable. Based on the performance of FSC-VSPS units, this paper constructs the objective function of FSC-VSPS and PV combined operation and com up with the control strategy of combined complementary operation system. The paper introduces the overall structure and functional design of the system which takes Chunchangba FSC variable-speed pumped-storage units and Meixing PV power station as the actual control objects.In the end, we carries out engineering field tests to verify the control strategy which revealed that the combined working of FSC-VSPS and PV can significantly lower the fluctuation of the output and increase the adjustment accuracy of the combined operation system. The findings of the research can be used to provide technical support and a reference for a complementary power generation project involving small and medium-sized FSC variable-speed pumped storage and new energy.
