Enhanced DC Surface Flashover Performance of the Fluorocarbon Resin/SiC Superhydrophobic Coating

The superhydrophobic surface with self-cleaning performance is supposed to be effective in suppressing pollution accumulation, demonstrating the potential for enhanced surface flashover performance of the electrical facility and electronic device served under extreme conditions. Herein we reported a FR-SiC (fluorocarbon resin/SiC) coating, which could enhance the surface flashover performance under high humidity significantly via the synergy of superhydrophobicity and surface charge decay characteristics. The wettability and the surface charge decay characteristics of the FR-SiC coating have been investigated. Results show that the FR-SiC coating could accelerate the charge decay, relief the electrical distortion, and improve the surface flashover voltage of the coating. Additionally, the superhydrophobicity of the FR-SiC coating could guarantee a clean surface and promote the insulation strength of the coating after prolonged wetting. Compared with the glass substrate, the dry and wet surface flashover voltages of the FR-SiC coating were promoted by 77% and 296%, respectively. We provides an enhancing strategy for the insulation performance of the electrical facility served under extreme conditions.
