Analysis of Fire Detection Methods in Cable Tunnels of Shanghai

Cable tunnels are the complicated structures in the underground of the city, and the interior space of which is long and narrow. Meanwhile, it is difficult for rescuing and repairing after a fire. Therefore, shorter alarm response times and higher rates of accuracy are necessary for fire detection system. How the fire detection methods work and were equipped in cable tunnels of Shanghai are illustrated in detail in this paper, combined with fire behavior of cable tunnels. According to the detection results of fires, it is indicated that smoke detectors are more effective than temperature detector of distributed fiber optic in case of small fires of cable tunnels.
