Decomposition Properties of CF3I - The Alternative Gas for SF6

As a result of its superior insulation performance, CF
3
I (trifluoroiodine methane) is being considered for highvoltage applications as an eco-friendly alternative to SF
6
. We present this study in order to gain a better understanding of decomposition performance for CF
3
I theoretically. In this paper, calculations of the decomposition process of the CF
3
I gas were conducted by local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) composition and density functional theory (DFT). We try to compare the stability of CF
3
I and SF
6
in thermal dissociation, photodissociation, and electron collision dissociation, and analyze the feasibility of replacing SF
6
gas with CF
3
I in highvoltage insulation equipment from the perspective of stability.
