The Vibration Analysis of HVDC Converter Module Based on Experiment under Working Conditions

Converter valves are the key equipment for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems. The vibration of convert valve modules is not only a crucial parameter for evaluating the condition of the HVDC system but also an ambient resource that can be used for powering the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sensors to accomplish different tasks. In the literature, previous studies focused only on the core of the anode saturation reactor (ASR) as the vibration originates from it. In this work we provide, for the first time, the vibration measurement of different components in a converter module under operating conditions. We used both laser and piezoelectric vibration sensors to obtain the measurement for comparison. The experiment enables us to characterise the vibration of ASR and obtain the most feasible frequency for vibration energy harvesting.
