Mathematical Modeling of the Vulcanization Process of Polyethylene Insulation

Determining the degree of crosslinking, as well as selecting the optimal technological regime, is an important task when using polyethylene insulation in power cables. This article discusses the results of the implementation of a stationary axisymmetric mathematical model of the process of crosslinking polyethylene insulation in a nitrogen environment. Temperature fields were obtained along the entire length of the vulcanization line, as well as inside the insulated workpiece. An experimental study of polyethylene samples on a rotary rheometer was carried out. According to the results of the experiment, the dependence of the degree of crosslinking on time and temperature was obtained. According to the laboratory experiment, a method for determining the degree of crosslinking was determined. Based on the recurrent equation, the degree of crosslinking in the finished product was calculated, and the effect of the isolation rate on the final degree of crosslinking was also evaluated. The main aspect of the development of this mathematical model is the possibility of adjusting existing production modes. At the end of the article, an example of optimizing the technological mode by increasing the speed of line isolation is given.
