Evolutionary Algorithms based Optimization of Resistance for Marine Vessels

Primary objective of marine vessel’s designing is the resistance reduction and performance enhancement. Experimental model testing in hydrodynamic testing facilities is normally carried out for hull optimization by determining the resistance and powering performance. In the recent advancements, evolutionary algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Simulated Annealing (SA) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) are deployed for optimization of hull forms. In the conventional model testing, the data based on evolutionary algorithms can also be used as validation data. The evolutionary algorithms based viscous resistance optimization for Wigley hull at Froude Number 0.316 has been conducted in this paper.
