Microgrid Control Method Based on Virtual Synchronous Machines in Islanded Mode

To reduce the impact on microgrid stability due to the high penetration of distributed energy sources, a novel method based on the virtual synchronous machine (VSM) is used to enhance the dynamic characteristics. The effective allocation of inverters in parallel and power distribution is a key issue for microgrids when the distributed power sources are connected in parallel. This paper proposes a control strategy based on the theory of VSM, which mimics the rotational inertia and damping characteristics of synchronous generators to achieve smooth microgrid control, and analyses the control model of VSM. A case study of the islanded operation of multi-energy sources based on virtual synchronous control is simulated using the MATLAB/Simulink platform. The simulation results show that the control strategy enables the smooth control of the microgrid and accurate power distribution for multiple inverters.
